Attention to Family
Having a loved one who struggles with a mental health condition can be a difficult experience for families to understand. Even more so, having that same loved one decide to seek help can bring up many feelings for a family member. Perhaps feelings of uncertainty, stress, fear, or even concern for how and when to best support your loved one.
At Lido Wellness Center, we recognize and acknowledge that it is not only our patients who come to our program for help, but often their families for support and understanding of what their loved one is experiencing. It is for this reason that every patient that comes to Lido Wellness Center is assessed upon entering our program around their need for family work. At Lido Wellness Center, we utilize a family systems approach which allows us to address issues at home by working with couples, parents, primary care takers, or other loved ones.
We believe in truly including the whole family in this work and understanding the perspectives of all family members involved. Our first step in this process is a brief initial meeting with our patient to gather family history and begin to develop a collaborative plan to support successful family therapeutic intervention.
Our aim is to provide the best possible treatment experience for our patients and also their families; therefore, we often also provide supportive coaching and therapy for the families of our patients to best support the recovery of our patients and their loved ones involved in their recovery journey.
Another part of our mental health family program in Newport Beach that sets us apart is the understanding that there is no one size fits all when it comes to family work. Once we identify which style best supports the families of our patients, we are able to provide a customized approach regarding communication of progress updates, parent and/or family coaching, or family and/or couples therapy.
We prioritize being mindful of each family system’s individualities and complexities and gauge our approach involving the patient, family members, and coupleship within the structure of involvement and communication to best support favorable outcomes for all involved. We may explore patterns, habits, and solutions for greater access to healing and support beyond our care at Lido Wellness Center. When appropriate, we may introduce psychoeducation and homework assignments in between sessions for both our patient and their loved ones.
We recognize how difficult this process can be for both our patients and their families. We applaud you as a family member for your involvement, willingness, and courage to support your loved one on their journey to wellness.
